It is not clear to me at this time whether these attacks were intended for me or for Mines of Moria. New Socialistia indicated that he received a message from Based Japan saying "Let's wreck Moria," so maybe the attacks were meant for Mines of Moria. A more recent message I received from New Socialistia after he attacked one of my units ("Shit. Didn't see that was your unit. Sorry.") is consistent with this. So far, I have not attacked any of Based Japan's units, though I have seized tiles from her. I will halt operations against Based Japan until the situation becomes clearer.
